Sidney and Matilda Presents:

Hunny Buzz

HUNNY BUZZ enter their somber founded era through their second EP ‘Pulling Roots’. It marks position as the band’s next focal point and is a strong return after, ‘Welcome to Our Garden’.

Front woman Lyd Read, captures the weight of living in her twenties; juggling relationships, sour friendships and modern love struggles, while reflecting on her teenage unresolved breakups and explores the unsettled grief of her eighteen year old self. Read’s attitudinal expression through her performance delivers her stories with fresh desirable punch.

Fresh from supporting Hannah Wicklund on their UK/EU tour through 2024 the band started their summer with a festival appearance at Isle of Wight Festival before heading back into the studio to record EP 2.

Goth King Resurrection: Black Celebration

£5 CASH ON THE DOOR

Goth King Resurrection summon those who heed the black omen, awaken from your sleeping thoughts where phantoms stalk your dreams, shed your melancholy shroud, come and surrender to the endless yearning. From the 8th hour in the grand hall at Sidney & Matilda, DJ Dionysus & DJ Vega Bukowski will unveil a sumptuous pre-club set of classic Gothic Rock, Dark Wave, and Post-Punk through Neofolk, Neomedieval, and Neoclassical to Goth Metal and Industrial, but this will be only a foreshadowing of darker things to come. As the 11th hour strikes, they will then lead you, entranced, into the tomblike underground chamber, swathed in shadows and half-light, to devour deeper, longer into the dark of night, this enchanted, demoniac and ritualistic music, monumental and sepulchral.

Gather with us to celebrate dark sounds for dark souls…

Jarred Up Presents: Avalanche Party

“The most exciting rock & roll band in the UK right now” - JACK SAUNDERS, BBC RADIO 1

“A tsunami of mega riffs and eardrum-popping bass lines. Definitely don’t want to wear your Sunday best to one of their raucous gigs” - NME

“An absolute tour de force, their boundless energy and breathtaking performance truly sets them apart. By far one of the most thrilling bands you will see in the UK” - LOUDER THAN WAR

Today, (28th November 2024) Yorkshire feral garage-punk band Avalanche Party release new single ‘Shake The Slack’, a commanding, psychedelic-dance track and call to arms. The track features on their forthcoming album ‘Der Traum Uber Alles’ on 7th February via AMK, Kartel Music Group’s alternative music imprint. Listen to ‘Shake The Slack’ here.

Vocalist Jordan Bell speaks on the track, “This is about the noble process of taking the slack and shaking it. Whipping that angel delight into shape. The great reckoning cometh. We took a lot of takes in the studio to get it as crisp as possible, lots of slave-driving going on”.

Guitarist Jared Thorpe adds, “From the birth of the initial idea, this song went around the world four times before it learnt how to speak. It was like a painting that was painted over a hundred times, ripped apart daily for months. It kind of got to the point where it finished itself”.

Lazy Thinking Live: An Inspiring and Intimate Evening of Literature and Music

Here it is. The opener. The big one. The who-know’s-what-the-hell-is-going-on-but-it-damn-looks-like-a-lot-of-fun, first-ever, all singing, all dancing Library of Lazy Thinking Live Show.

To mark this special occasion, it is an absolute honour and pleasure to bring you readings from the wonderful and inspiring humans that go by the names of David Keenan, Helen Mort, and Lias Saoudi, not to mention live music from the always excellent Andrew DR Abbott and the ever-eccentric Loic J Tuckey.

Plus, as well as live performances, casual chat, and potentially enforced fun, there’ll be a pop-up bookshop from Novel’s rather wonderful Kate and Joe. It means you can drink booze AND buy books, all while Lias Saoudi looks at you suspiciously from across the room.

I mean, it’s the stuff dreams are made of, right?

It’s all going down (in two parts and an old-school intermission) at Sidney & Matilda’s in Sheffield on Thursday 20th March, from 7pm until late. You should probably come—it’ll be good.

Tickets are limited and it’s first come first served.

Sidney&Matilda Presents: Addison Groove

TICKETS

Bristol-based producer Addison Groove (Antony Williams) played a significant role in introducing Chicago's juke/footwork scene to the U.K. bass music continuum, and helped solidify the connection between the two, particularly through the 2010 single "Footcrab" and collaborations with footwork pioneer . Williams had previously achieved significant success in the dubstep scene for his work under the name , having released numerous singles and a full-length on , one of the genre's leading labels. However, once he heard the hyperkinetic beats and rapid-fire samples of footwork, he began reframing those elements in a dubstep context, slowing the beats down a bit and airing them out, making the tracks a bit more DJ-friendly. The first result was "Footcrab," which was released by 's label during the first half of 2010 and instantly became a massive underground hit. Subsequent singles, including releases on and , incorporated influences such as electro and acid house. By the end of 2011, Addison Groove had signed to 's imprint. A cryptic one-sided 7" single titled "Addison Locked Groove," a single track that lasted one minute and 11 seconds, was released on 11/11/11. The debut full-length Transistor Rhythm, which featured collaborations with (fresh from his footwork-influenced project) and , arrived in 2012. This was followed by Adventures in Rainbow Country, an EP including the popular club track "I Go Boom," which was subsequently remixed by Chicago footwork pioneer . The year 2013 brought collaborations with (BS3 EP) and Bristol drum'n'bass veteran (Keyhole). Both artists contributed to the second Addison Groove album, James Grieve, which appeared in early 2014. Later in the year, Williams released Turn Up the Silence, an EP that featured "U Been Gone," a collaboration with , whose life tragically came to an end several months before the EP's release. Addison Groove shared a split 12" with as part of ' final run of releases in 2015. He also began releasing singles on his own label, including a 12" of "Footcrab" edits, and collaborated with once more, on 2016's Legion of Boom EP. The African-influenced Changa EP, a 12" of remixes of the EP track "Shango," and another collaboration with , Where Are the People, were all released in 2017. Full-length Fred Neutron, a collision of footwork, jungle, and acid, was released by in 2020. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi

Jarred Up x Sidney and Matilda Presents:

Pulled Apart By Horses

Pulled Apart By Horses are a potent force within the alternative rock scene - less a gang, more a fucked-up family. Formed in 2008 and existing in its own chaotic ecosystem, PABH embarked on relentless tours with frenetic live performances. The Leeds trio make and perform music that thrills and menaces. In Sept 2022, after a period of reflection and transformation, PABH released their long-awaited 5th album, ‘Reality Cheques’. Creating songs delivered with raw urgency, the band changed their approach with Hudson ditching his guitar and focusing on vocals, distilling their lineup to guitar, bass and drums creating a vital new feel.

“The fat was trimmed! We spent months playing the songs in our practice space & on an ‘up close and personal’ tour, heading into the studio to capture the tracks live, tour tight and locked in!”

A 7” vinyl featuring ‘First World Problems’ / ‘Rinse & Repeat’, saw PABH landing at #2 in The UK Vinyl Singles Chart. ‘First World Problems’ - ‘’is a voiced frustration towards our groomed, individualist society. Our real & online worlds are full of constant venting of trivial annoyances, as if they are the centre of the universe when there are more pressing matters out there.’’ 'Rinse & Repeat’ is ‘’Inspired by seeing Ziggy Stardust standing in line at the JobCentre, it’s more punk rock than Iggy advertising life insurance.”

Pulled Apart By Horses are:

Tom Hudson – Vocals Robert John Lee – Guitar, backing vocals Tommy Davidson-Hawley – Drums

INTERWORLD presents BABii, Yem Gel + more

A night of hyperactive audiovisual goodness featuring internationally renowned DJ, producer and experimental pop artist BABii to Sheffield as part of her UK/EU tour for her new album, DareDeviil2000!

BABii is the alter-ego of master creator, world builder and electronic adventurer Daisy Warne. Her new album, Daredeviil2000, touches on classic grime instrumentals, fluorescent bassline, UKG, R&B and Deroit cybercrime scam rap, and features producers Warpstr, Samuel Organ, Mun Sing, Iglooghost and Pholo. For this immersive live set, BABii enters something akin to Dante’s Inferno, exploring the origins of violence and criminality and how hell relates to the real world - with a cast of malevolent characters existing in the fantastical Nevaworld, a futuristic hellscape in which the album exists. Support comes from Manchester's Yem Gel, CYB3R mainstay Jordan Windows and Interworld regulars Phoneutrian and DJ Blue Raspberry.

Interworld Media are a Sheffield-based crew who curate live audiovisual events with the aim of bringing together different experimental electronic music scenes. Expect stacks of huge CRT TVs, live projected visuals, and an absurdly entertaining night of hyperpop/weirdcore dance music.https://interworld.media

Jarred Up Presents: KEG

Erupting from a frenzied passion for the ‘song’, Keg toe a fine line between the angular throb of contemporary post-rock sensibilities and a timeless necessity for harmony and meticulous songwriting. Taking hints and tips from their forebears Minutemen, Fugazi and Radio 4 the band intend to confound genre, but mainly stick to the rock arena.

Armed with 7 musicians, Keg creates a frantic chaotic energy. Barbed guitars, wonky synth lines, peppered with trombone, and a glimpse into a confused man’s brain. The band rarely rest easy on one approach, equally happy to explore a college rock sound as a hardcore one. Its this indecision which leads Keg to continue to push their sound further, delving into ambient landscapes and melodic songwriting.

It is the live arena, where KEG is understood best, they’ve earnt their stripes at Greenman (Big Top), Latitude (Sunrise Arena), Sur Le Sac (CH), Sacred Ground (DE), End of The Road (Big Top), Dour Festival (BE), Vida Festival (ES) and built a loyal following of fans across the UK and Europe.

The band have released two critically acclaimed EPs ‘Assembly’ (2021) and ‘Girders’ (2022), garnering attention from Loud and Quiet, NME, Dork, So Young and support from BBC radio 6 and Radio X. DIY are real champions of the band, awarding them a slot in their prestigious Class of 2023.

They return with their anxiously awaited debut ‘Fun’s Over’ early 2025, and the chaos will ensue.

KING EFFERS (SHEFFIELD PUNKY REGGAE) - HEADLINERS
https://www.facebook.com/p/King-Effers-100063586809921/

In 2019, having got fed up with censorship and silly social media algorithms, Sheffield’s long standing politico-punks The F*kwits changed their name to King Effers, perhaps a little easier on the tongue.

Mr Keef and Chris (The F*kwits) were joined by Tank (Freekspert) on drums, and Muzz (Artery/Faerground Accidents) on bass. With a love of all things punk, reggae and rocksteady it was only a matter of time before the sound turned into a highly-charged punky reggae party.

Having toured the UK and Germany and negotiated the perils and pitfalls of the covid lockdowns, the band finally managed to procure enough studio time and complete the recordings of what would become the first King Effers album entitled ‘Soap Box’, to be released on Holy Dotage Records on Dec 1st 2023

Line up:

Mr Keef – Vocals & Guitar
Guitar Chris – Guitar & B-Vocals
Muzz – Bass & B-Vocals
Tank – Drums & Percussion.
