Jubilee Movements - Charity Fundraiser

  • Sidney and Matilda 46 Sidney Street Sheffield, England, S1 4RH United Kingdom (map)

Information from the organisers:

Join us for an evening of music and poetry in the name of mutual aid - featuring Latin pop, 70s funk, acoustic protest anthems, spoken word and much more.

This event will be a fundraiser for Sheffield's radical mutual aid movement to continue our work of building community, in particular funding the free meals we hold on the last Saturday of every month alongside other cultural and solidarity events. In the long-term, we are looking towards opening a community space for social justice organisations across Sheffield to come together, network and organise.

The event will feature reflections on mutual aid, anti-capitalist resistance and international solidarity in between performances. Come along to learn more about our work and join the party!

CHRIS KENNING

Chris started off playing guitar rock but has moved towards trad folk and jazz. Can usually be found drumming, playing guitar or occasionally singing.

PETER WATT and ARMANDO MURILLO COSSIO

PASCAL MIRINDI (speaker):

Founder of Extinction Rebellion Goma University. He collaborates with a network of XR groups throughout DRC campaigning for climate justice and against the expansion of fossil fuels in Democratic Republic of Congo, especially since the sale of 30 oil and gas blocks has been announced. Specifically they have opposed Perenco’s expansion in western Congo, also working with local people in the peat lands and near Lake Tanganyika, and locals in the areas near Lake Albert. Since it is anticipated that Total will aim to export the oil from the DRC side of Lake Albert through the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline, Pascal is now part of the StopEACOP campaign. He also collaborates with Greenpeace and 350.org.

Pascal last year came second in the Africans Rising Activism Awards. XR Goma University was 2nd in place for Movement of the Year Award.
