ALLYSHA JOY (30/70 Collective/First Word Records) (LIVE)
Melbourne Soul Sensation
Well versed in poetry and performance, Allysha Joy’s potent lyricism, unique musicianship, production & killer vocals have garnered fans the world over. She’s an integral member of the Melbourne soul jazz scene, in the acclaimed 30/70 Collective (Check their recent ART MAKE LOVE album) & for her superb solo output including the superb 2022 release on First Word, ‘Torn: Tonic’.
These recent albums build on the momentum of her 2018 album for UK jazz trumpeter Matthew Halsall’s Gondwana Sounds label, ‘Arcadie: Raw’ which won Best Soul Album at the Music Victoria awards, was nominated for Best Jazz album at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards and featured in Bandcamp’s Best Soul album of the year.
For some time now Melbourne, Australia has been a hotbed for soul, funk and jazz talent from Hiatus Kaiyote (twice Grammy nominated Clever Austin from the group produced her Light it Again EP) to the likes of Lanu, Laneous and more!

Frequent collaborator with the leading lights of the superb Melbourne soul and jazz scene including Horatio Luna, Silent Jay and Sampology, Allysha also provides the killer vocals for IG Culture’s New Sector Movements new release building on a love of the broken beat fusions evident in her compilation of Melbourne’s finest producers of all things leftfield & bruk, ‘They’re Energised’. Sounds she explored with her show on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM.
We are chuffed to bits to have one of the most prolific and exciting soul artists to emerge in the past few years bring her rich tapestry of beats and melodies to Phonetics!

IG CULTURE (Co-Op/New Sector Movements/UK legend!)
DJ Set
Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards 2019 – Lifetime Achievement Award

IG Culture is a musical force that never stops creating - releasing top quality music since 1990. If the good ship Phonetics had to pick its Desert Island Discs, we’d be trying to sneak more of IG’s in there!
From UK hip hop pioneers Dodge City Productions to his involvement in The Young Disciples seminal soul album, work with Monday Michuru and Les Nubians via Roots Manuva’s Brand New Second Hand and the simply huge output of broken beat fused music that defies easy categorisation - IG’s music is always of the highest grade.
IG moves in many guises – here’s a few more for you to check: LCSM, Likwid Biscuit, Ma Futura, Namebrandsound Son of Scientist, Quango…that’s before we talk remixes.
A trailblazer very much in his own lane, from his early roots in hip hop to being widely acclaimed as the godfather of the UK’s broken beat scene, IG is now nurturing the next generation of producers on the Co-Op presents label while releasing phenomenal future facing beats & sounds and recently presenting the Co-Op show on Worldwide FM.
His UK soul and broken beat classic New Sector Movements albums of the early 00s stand strong– a moniker that he has recently relaunched with First Word Records. Check his recent ‘These Times’ EP with Allysha Joy amongst others.
We welcome a true pioneer to our dance.

HERITAGE (LIVE)
(MOMA CAT DISCOS)
9 Piece future soul/jazz ensemble!

Heritage met and graduated from the rich musical source that is the Leeds Conservatoire (recent alumni include the likes of Nubiyan Twist and TC & The Groove Family), the 9 piece have been building up a strong following in their home city and beyond over the past 15 months for their impressive, textured live performances!
Their debut EP ‘Dystopian Land’ dropped last year quickly receiving radio play from Worldwide FM, Totally Wired Radio, Jazz FM and more. BBC Introducing West Yorkshire gave single ‘The Suits’ ‘Single of the Week’, it also featured in Bandcamp’s Weekly round up of all that is hot.
With harmonised vocal stylings influenced by the likes of Liane La Havas, Erykah Badu and Nai Palm (Hiatus Kaiyote) and lyrics unafraid to tackle social issues, their dynamite live shows are getting plenty of attention. Come early and see why!
